The MSU Broad Art Museum proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary. If you haven’t yet visited the Broad, this is the year to do it. In addition to the many fine exhibitions and events scheduled for the year, from September 10th until February 12th, 2023 the lead exhibition at the museum will be the largest collection in a single place of works by the architect who designed the museum: Zaha Hadid Design: Untold
Known for her dazzling forms and dynamic approach to design, Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) won the Broad Museum worldwide architect competition to design the building. The forward-thinking design is an architectural marvel situated on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. It is highly accessible with two entrances - one facing the city and off-campus foot traffic, the other the MSU campus and community.
When you visit the museum, be sure to take in the building cleats that are unique throughout the facility. Notice the quality and color of the light too. A special angel hair stainless steel surrounding refracts light differently to mirror the seasons outside. It’s magical.
This 10th anniversary celebration is also being celebrated with a premier fundraising event benefiting the new Open Storage Center. Saturday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m. Art lovers will join at the Broad for a memorable dinner with signature drinks, light displays, live entertainment, exceptional artwork and more. The Open Storage Center is an important project designed to give the public more opportunities to view the over 10,000 works of art from Greek and Roman antiquities to modern and contemporary pieces currently in storage for the Broad.
Tickets for the Open Storage Center event are $150/person and can be purchased at broadmuseum.msu.edu. Platinum, Gold, Silver or Individual Tier Sponsorships are available with added benefits such as VIP tours, name or logo recognition, discount opportunities, or VIP event invitations throughout the year. Any sponsor questions can be directed to Sandra Brown, Asst. Director of Development.
The Broad Art Museum is the vision of benefactors Eli and Edythe Broad who have gifted MSU with nearly $100 million in support of his alma mater Michigan State University. Their commitment to ensuring art is accessible to the widest possible audience has created a robust legacy. Zoe Kissel, Director of Communications at the MSU Broad Art Museum invites people to visit the museum and the website often for updates. Exhibitions are rotated frequently with programs available all the time. There are architectural tours now, public making events, a weekend wellness series, and amazing exhibitions.
Kissel noted, “Visitors are always welcome. The building itself is a work of art.”
The MSU Broad Art Museum is always free, and open to all! Visitors are invited to stop in to experience the ever-evolving exhibitions from Thursday – Sunday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
