What if you could find fashion forward clothing that was socially responsible and ethically sourced? It's possible to do just that when you shop at Polka Dots Boutique, a small business founded with that mission.

Started by a female owner in Old Town Lansing ten years ago, Polka Dots Boutique
gives people a way to enjoy beautiful, functional clothing while making a difference
through their purchases.
Asked about her vision for becoming a boutique owner, founder Jennifer Hinze
explained she wanted to learn more about fashion while understanding the human
factor behind it. Hinze has created a shop filled with clothing and accessories people
can feel good about. She does a deep dive with all the store’s vendors to be sure they
don’t use child labor, they treat their employees kindly and their manufacturing
processes are ethical.
Naming one of her favorite brands she carries, Hinze said Starfish Project helps to
support women impacted by human trafficking. She also said, “When someone buys
something as simple as a bracelet it makes a difference. It can buy a month of
education or two weeks of childcare for example”.
Hinze lives her mission in both her professional and personal life. A portion of the profits
from Polka Dots Boutique are donated to foundations and local non-profits. She served
as a board member for several nonprofits and is currently serving as a member of the
Executive Board of Downtown Inc. The boutique also stays open for every Old Town
festival and Arts Night Out that we can staff.

Polka Dots Boutique is a unique and wonderful experience. Named the Socially
Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year, and the Best Locally Owned Clothing Store,
Polka Dots has a great selection both in-house and online for shoppers. The boutique
also maintains a limited inventory of all the apparel and accessories. “We want
customers to enjoy what they buy, know that they’ve had a unique shopping experience
and feel good about what they’re supporting with their purchases”, said Hinze.
