If you consider yourself a foodie, then you're in the right place! NEXT Michigan.news has compiled a list of restaurants that we consider as hidden (and not so hidden) gems throughout the state.

Clarkston Union Bar and Kitchen

Nestled inside an abandoned Baptist church from the 1800’s is Clarkston Union Bar and Kitchen. Located in Clarkston, Michigan, the restaurant is known for its comfort foods. Originally started as a “promise to dish out the kind of handcrafted grub that you’d have expected to find on Main Street back in the day when parking lots had horse posts in them,” the restaurant is home to some of the best mac and cheese in the country. https://www.clarkstonunion.com

Chicken House

A small but mighty restaurant that specializes in chicken and “some of the best ice cream in Southwest Michigan” sits at the South end of Gull Lake in Richland, Michigan. The Chicken House opened in 2020 and is inspired by “some of the true and original Nashville Hot chicken joints.” To see what else the Chicken House has on their menu, click https://www.chickenhouserestaurant.com/menu

Pizza Cat Max

Pizza Cat Max is a hidden gem located in Greektown, downtown Detroit that specializes in pizza. (Madison Heights location coming soon.) But,not just any pizza… WEIRD pizza. In 2017, Pizza Cat’s founder took it upon himself to create a wonderfully wacky menu to embrace all possible topping combinations when it comes to pizza. https://pizzacat.com/greektown-menu/

Vinsetta Garage

Once known as the “oldest garage east of the Mississippi,” Vinsetta Garage is now a booming restaurant in Berkley, Michigan with a menu full of “custom Detroit eats that the mechanics and techs would have called their own back in the day.” For an opportunity to see what all that menu includes, click https://www.vinsettagarage.com/
