The Great Lakes State has countless events lined up for the month of March.

From the last weeks of winter to the first days of spring, our state has a little of everything.  Here is a look at the top picks between now and April.

Get ready for the 71st Annual Autorama. America’s Greatest Hod Rod Show runs Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3 at Huntington Place in Detroit.

General admission is $27 with discount tickets available at participating retail outlets.

 The acclaimed Ann Arbor Film Festival starts Tuesday, March 26 and wraps  Sunday, March 31.

About 3,000 films from over 90 countries were submitted for the 62nd festival, with 110 making the final cut.

Films will be screened at one of three venues across the city. 

If you can’t be there, have no fear – you can still view the submissions online until Sunday, April 7.

Butterflies are Blooming is an extraordinary exhibit held at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids.

It features these captivating creatures from March 1 through April 30.

This awe-inspiring attraction has “more than 60 species from Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. The five-story, 15,000-square-foot glass house provides the ideal tropical setting for these vibrant world travelers. Guests will marvel at a variety of species, from dazzling blue morphos and stealthy clearwings to majestic Atlas moths and elegant tree nymphs.”

Cost of entry is $20 for adults, $15 for students and $10 for kids.

Mid Michigan boasts their own Butterflies In Bloom beginning March 1 at Midland’s Dow Gardens.

Butterflies in Bloom spans more than six weeks to the middle of April. Reservations are required.

Mark your calendar for Michigan Maple Weekends. The Michigan Maple Syrup Association invites you to watch sugar makers in action as they tap the sap.

Plus you can try some tasty treats. A number of local farms will be open for the occasion.

The schedule this year is: Southern Lower Michigan March 23-24, Northern Lower Michigan March 30-31, and Upper Peninsula from April 6-7.

If you still haven’t got your sweets fix, Mindo Chocolate Makers Factory of Dexter offers a one-hour special session called Mindo Chocolate 101.

That will run each Friday afternoon in March from 4 to 5 p.m.

Learn the story of Mindo Chocolate, and how they create their cherished cocoa confections. Count on copious samples as well.

Tickets are only $20. What a wonderful way to wrap the week.

A slew of St. Patrick’s Day Parades are slated all across the state to celebrate the Emerald Isle’s patron saint.

Many cities in Michigan plan to put on the pomp for St. Paddy.  These are just a few of the festivities:

The Clare Irish Festival is perhaps our state’s premier St. Paddy’s Day celebration. That kicks off Tuesday, March 13 and goes until Sunday, March 17.

Detroit’s Annual Corktown Races take place on Sunday, March 10.

They include a Kids Quarter Mile at 10:30 a.m., the Emerald Mile at 10:40 a.m., and the Corktown 5KM at 11 a.m. 

The city’s parade is set for 1 p.m. That’s sure to be a jolly good time.

Northern Michigan is raring to go for Suds and Snow. “The Ultimate Party in the Woods” happens March 2 at Timber Ridge Resort in Traverse City.

The big bash will begin at 1 p.m. with over two dozen Michigan-based breweries taking part. The weather may vary, so plan accordingly.

We’re counting down the days of winter. The first official day of spring is Tuesday, March 19. Excitement is in the air...

Ring in the Spring Equinox with an array of activities around the state.

Strap on your skis or snowshoes, Valley Spur Taste & Glide gets underway on March 2 in Munising.

Mere miles south of Lake Superior. Valley Spur Trails is the place to be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Among the attractions are: live music, food and family-friendly things for the youngsters, such as arts & crafts and a petting zoo.

Price is $25. and $20 for VS Season pass holders.
